DESCRIPTION: This cylindrical gall can be up to 6cm long and consists of a cluster of leaves gathered together and containing a woody central chamber that holds a single fly larva in the axis of the inflorescence. The galls are greenish-yellow and then turn brown with the insect over-wintering inside. The adults emerge in June and oviposit almost immediately so that galls may be found throughout the year. DISTRIBUTION: Common but difficult to locate. HABITAT: On Common Reed.
